Advisor Highlight: Giving With Gratitude
Attorney Judy Lee was raised with a spirit of giving.
“My mother taught me that it is a blessing to give,” she recalls. “If she was cutting flowers in the yard and someone walked by and admired the flowers, she would offer them to that person. She told me it was important to share.”
Today, Judy helps clients achieve their charitable giving goals as a partner at Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel, where she focuses on estate planning, probate, guardianship, trust administration, and estate controversy.
Judy was honored as a 2021 Professional Advisor Awardee at the Hawai‘i Community Foundation’s Professional Advisors in Philanthropy Celebration on Nov. 5. She helps to promote philanthropy by initiating conversations with her clients to encourage charitable giving, and speaks to local nonprofit organizations, often on her personal time, about estate planning and the importance of legacy gifts.
Inspired by her Christian faith, Judy feels privileged to work with wealthy clients who choose to give generously, embodying the Bible verse, “to whom much has been given, much is required.”
Her approach to charitable giving is rooted in the principles of gratitude and encouragement. “With a grateful heart, we can encourage others,” she says. “Each of us can be stronger knowing that others support us, and together we can move forward when we unite in a common mission.”
As part of her award, Judy received a $2,000 grant to donate to the charity of her choice. She divided the funds between Nu’uanu Baptist Church, Susan G. Komen Hawai‘i, and the Domestic Violence Action Center.
“I believe that the spirit of gratitude and encouragement is embodied in the mission of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation,” she said, “and I am honored to have received this recognition from them this year.”
