Goodwill Voucher Program Extended

Gift-card vouchers can be used at Goodwill through the end of June 2024.

Are you a Maui resident who received an emergency voucher for clothing and household goods from Goodwill Hawaiʻi? Good news—the deadline to redeem your voucher has been extended to the end of June 2024.

In the wake of the Maui wildfires, Goodwill Hawai‘i set up emergency response centers at five of its program offices statewide, including Kahului (Maui), Hilo and Kona (Hawai‘i Island), as well as Kapolei and Beretania (O‘ahu), to support those impacted with applications for resources and aid, including unemployment benefits, FEMA disaster assistance, food stamps, and emergency housing relief.

Goodwill Hawai‘i has also distributed $425,000 in emergency vouchers to people impacted by the wildfires, so they could obtain clothing and household items. The vouchers are for $100 per person and are supported in part from a grant from the Maui Strong Fund of the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation.

“Vouchers can be redeemed at any of the Goodwills in Hawai‘i, but we distributed 90 to 95 percent of them on Maui,” says Kelley Cho, director of public relations and communications. To allow people more time to use their vouchers, they will now be accepted through June 30, 2024 (the program was previously set to end March 31).

The Goodwill Maui team has been going above and beyond to serve, notes Cho, even though they too were directly and indirectly affected by the wildfires. The mission services teams distributed store vouchers to people impacted by the fires in Lahaina and Kula; the retail team supported the increase in shoppers and helped people find the things they needed; and the support teams worked to quickly process donations so that customers would have as many options to choose from as possible.

Their dedication and hard work was recently honored with the 2024 Retail Merchants of Hawai‘i Ho‘okela Award for Retail Community Team of the Year. Congratulations to them!
